In Desperate Need of Christ

Isaiah 64: 5b&6a

How then can we be saved?  All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;

Why did Christ have to die? How much does His death and resurrection mean to a believer? This verse offers real help in appreciating Christ and showing our need of Him. Depraved is not a word we like to be described by but it fits. Even our righteous our best acts are like filthy rags! Is this just because God is too harsh? No, it is because he is completely holy. Sin cannot dwell in His presence. There can be no spot, no blemish, not imperfection in His presence if He is to continue to be God. Without Holiness no one will see God. This is our great problem, even our best of acts, characteristics, or thoughts have the blemish of sin on them. Even as a Christian our motivation for good acts is often smeared by selfishness or pride. Enter Christ. While we were yet sinners Christ died for us, taking away our sin, our blemish, and He continues to intercede on our behalf! If you are unbelievers, how much do you need Christ? Desperately, there is nothing you can do to please God outside of Christ. If you are a believer, how much do you need Christ? Desperately, there is nothing you can do to please God outside of Christ. This is why there is not other way to God, but by Christ. Good works won't cut it, other religions won't cut it, for God accepts nothing but Christ.
