Spiritual Highs

We at Edgewood are just coming off of a wonderful weekend of celebration. This year marks 35 years for Pastor Tom and Sue to be serving here. Pastor A.N. Martin spoke on being full of sap in our old age when it comes to the things of Christ, and the need for purity in Christian living, and the importance of holding fast to the gospel. The question I leave with is where do we go from here. We often have mountain top experiences. The weekend is full of warm feelings, convictions, and deep thoughts, but do they end with the weekend? Unfortunately too many times after a spiritual high we go back to work on Monday and within 2 weeks of work and regular church services we are back in a rut. How do we keep that from happening? The preacher has done his job, the Spirit has apparently moved, now we need to make it a priority to respond! Do not let your life be unaltered by what you have heard. Start doing the things that you were convicted were missing, set a course to deepen commitments to Christ and the church, and look for new ways to serve one another.

This should not just be true of special weekends but every time we hear the word preached. God gives us a real privilege of hearing the word preached 2-4 times a week. What do we do with the 'talents' God has given to us. Are we the strongest generation of Christians yet?, are we the most evangelistic Christians yet?, Are we even godly yet? Why not? Surely the fault lies in our lack of response to the things we already know. We are more prone to bury our talents than to risk using them. Let us shine like stars, let us show the power of the gospel, let us respond to its message.

Quote of the Week

"I remember, when I have preached at different times in the country, and sometimes here, that my whole soul has agonized over men, every nerve of my body has been strained and I could have wept my very being out of my eyes and carried my whole frame away in a flood of tears, if I could but win souls"

Quote of the Week

The Gospel is more than something we offer, it is who we are.
